ISDNCid Newsletter #1

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the first official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new version, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

Some of you may already have received parts of the information in this newsletter.

What's in this newsletter?

1. NEW BUGFIX RELEASE.
2. LOCAL LANGUAGE VERSIONS.
3. APPLICATION NOTES.
4. ICONS AND BANNERS WANTED.
5. WHAT'S BEING DEVELOPED NOW
6. SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION

1. NEW BUGFIX RELEASE.

Version 2.2.0.17 is now available for download. This bugfix release mainly fixes a problem with the compression format used in TIF files for fax reception. There has also been a change in the personal answer message handling. You may now use personal answer messages for "Unlisted" and "Unknown" callers. The automatic sizing and positioning of the main window has changed to better adjust for different locations of the task bar.

New callers has until now been associated with the caller number * in the caller list. For the personal answer message to work you must change this number to "Unlisted". This can be done either by changing it directly in the registry or by adding "Unlisted" and deleting the * entry.

ISDNCid will from the next release remember the positioning and size of the main window.

2. LOCAL LANGUAGE VERSIONS.

ISDNCid 2.2.0.17 is now available for download for German and Spanish version. Many thanks to Timo ter Maat and Alejandro Sanchez who has been so kind to do the translation work. These versions are until further notice available as a zip-file with isdncid.exe inside. You can upgrade any current installation by downloading and unpacking this zip-file. The current locations for upgrading to version 2.2.0.17 is:

US English: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncius.zip
Spanish version: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncies.zip
German version: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncide.zip
Norwegian version: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncino.zip

The Finnish version is almost done and will be available soon.

The Italian and Portuguese versions are being translated now but I have no current status.

For the Dutch version I hope to release first version between Sept. 07 and 12.

There is also some work being done right now for a Hebrew version.

If anyone would like to see ISDNCid in another language, the text file is available for translation. Please let me know.

3. APPLICATION NOTES.

If any users have experienced smart ways to use ISDNCid, and they want to share this information with others, please send me an email with the subject Application Note. I will bring it into the next newsletter.

Also if anyone has some Getting Started tip that would make life easier for new users, please let me know so that I can put it into the readme file.

Some users have asked for a talking version of ISDNCid announcing incoming calls through the speakers. I'm going to make better support for playing wav-files when incoming calls are detected. For the current version of ISDNCid you can solve this by using External Program Scheduling.

Leave "On call run program" blank.
In "program arguments" insert something like
C:\Windows\Mplayer.exe /play /close c:\somefile.wav

4. ICONS AND BANNERS WANTED.

The icons used in ISDNCid is perhaps boring someone. If someone has some better solutions they want to share with me I would be very happy. You can download the current icons from

http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncid.ico (standard icon)
http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncidd.ico (disabled icon)
http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncidm.ico (mail notification icon)

The ISDNCid web page is completely without banners. In Finland Anders Nylander (who is also so kind to translate ISDNCid from English to Finnish) has put up a web page with a good banner at http://www.dlc.fi/~legend/isdncid/

If someone would like to freshen up my web page with a banner I would be very happy.

5. WHAT'S BEING DEVELOPED NOW.

A lot of smaller changes asked for by users will be released in the next version.

Right now I'm working on the DTMF recognition to extend the features of the answering machine. DTMF is defined by CAPI but a lot of adapters don't support this. Therefore I'm developing the software filters necessary to detect DTMF so that this will work for all adapters with CAPI support whether they have DTMF or not.

I have developed the software necessary to detect when a fax machine is calling and thereby switch from voice to fax protocol. Sadly neither my Eicon Diva 2.0 Pro nor my Dynalink IS64PH adapter supports protocol switching. This is probably the fact with most adapters. Until I find another adapter for testing this will be delayed.

ISDNCid Newsletter #2

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the second official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new version, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

What's in this newsletter?

1. NEW US ENGLISH BETA RELEASE.
2. LOCAL LANGUAGE VERSIONS.
3. APPLICATION NOTES.
4. FURTHER DEVELOPMENT
6. SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION

1. NEW US ENGLISH BETA RELEASE.

Version 2.2.0.20 is now available for download in US English version. The other language versions will be updated as soon as I get the extra texts translated. To install this release you have to download http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncius.zip and unzip isdncid.exe to the ISDNCid directory. ISDNCid has to be terminated before doing so, and you should make a backup copy of your existing exe-file (2.2.0.17) before doing so.

This version has been fixed for some reported bugs and has also got some added functionality.

New functions:

*** Recording of welcome message.
You may now record your welcome messages through the phone instead of through the PC microphone. To do so, call the MSN for which you want to record a new message, and answer the call by pushing the REC-button or the "Record" item on the main menu. You will at first listen to your current welcome message. After the ding you are in record mode and should leave your new welcome message.

*** Playing all new messages.
A new button has been added to play all new messages. Pushing this button will start playing all new messages, oldest one first, and changing the status from unlistened to listened. You may interrupt the playing at any time by pushing the play button again.

*** Remote listening of new messages.
You can listen to voice messages by calling from an authorized number. You have to enter the authorized number in the Global Options dialog box. To listen to messages from a remote phone, do the following:
- From the authorized number call one MSN which has the answering machine turned on.
- While listening to the welcome message, press one of the following keys:
-> 1 to listen to all new messages, oldest first.
-> 2 to listen to all messages, oldest first.
-> 3 to listen to all messages, newest first.

ISDNCid will hang up on completion of the last message. If you want to interrupt the playing from your remote phone, just hangup.

When pressing one of the keys 1, 2 or 3 you have to hold it for about 2 seconds. As a rule, count to 3 seconds while pressing one key. The welcome message may be buffered by the ISDN adapter drivers, so it may take another 2 seconds before the message is interrupted.

*** Added information in the splash screen.
The splash screen now also shows the called number in normal font size.

*** Called number in the log-file.
The log file format has been changed to also show the called number.

*** Running ISDNCid as a Windows NT service.
From version 2.2.0.18 ISDNCid may also be configured to run as a service under Windows NT. A readme file and a helper NT-service can be found by downloading http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncint.zip This zip-file also contains isdncid.exe version 2.2.0.20

*** Automatic fax recognition and protocol switching.
By checking both "Handle incoming fax" and "Answer incoming calls" ISDNCid will start listening for a calling fax-machine while playing the welcome message. When a calling fax-machine is detected ISDNCid will automatically switch to T.30 fax protocol and start to receive the fax.

As this functionality is not supported on most adapters I have had very little opportunity to verify that it really works. Feedback will be appreciated.

2. LOCAL LANGUAGE VERSIONS.

ISDNCid 2.2.0.17 is now available for download in several languages. Version 2.2.0.20 will be updated as soon as the translations are ready. Many thanks to the translators who have been so kind to do the translation work. These versions are until further notice available as a zip-file with isdncid.exe inside. You can upgrade any current installation by downloading and unpacking this zip-file. The current locations for upgrading to local language versions 2.2.0.17 is:

US English: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncius.zip ( Version 2.2.0.20 )
US English with NT service: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncint.zip ( Version 2.2.0.20 )
Spanish version: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncies.zip (Alejandro Sanchez)
German version: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncide.zip (Timo ter Maat)
Norwegian version: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncino.zip ( I did )
Finnish version: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncifi.zip (Anders Nylander, Mika Väliviita)
Dutch version: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncidu.zip (Roelf Renkema, Marvin van Velzen)
French version: http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncifr.zip (Bernard Mazet)

The Italian version is being translated right now (I think, and hope) but I have no current status.

For the Portuguese version I seem to have lost my contact.

For a Hebrew version all the texts are translated, but I still have a problem selecting the correct character set to be shown.

It might also be a Polish version on its way.

Here is one I got:

I assume it's also possible to put the START command in the "On call run
program" box.
Try "START /?" in a DOS-box to find out what parameters are useful for you.

Example: "START" in the "On call run program"
and "/m C:\Windows\Mplayer.exe /play /close c:\somefile.wav"
in the "program arguments"
should start Mplayer minimized.
Leave "On call run program" blank.
In "program arguments" insert something like
C:\Windows\Mplayer.exe /play /close c:\somefile.wav

4. FURTHER DEVELOPMENT.

First of all I will make some more functionality for remote operation of the answering machine and DTMF recognition. I will also release automatic voice- and fax-message forwarding, but not before I have managed to reconfigure these operations from a remote phone.

Because I'm working on a splitting of ISDNCid in two parts, the ISDNCid engine and the user interface, I will not do much work on the user interface layout on this version. The new user interface will be built with Borland CBuilder and not with Borland C++ as it currently is.

ISDNCid Newsletter #3

Greetings to all registered ISDNCid users.

In this third newsletter for ISDNCid users I will be very brief.

Since the last newsletter announcing rev. 2.2.0.20 I have found the time to implement a couple of requested facilities that might be of help to some of you.

If you don't need the the announced functions, please don't download now. You should rather wait for the next major release.

These are the language versions currently available as rev. 2.2.0.26:

Dutch,
English
Finnish
French
German
Italian
Norwegian
Spanish

Since rev. 2.2.0.20 there has been implemented two new facilities:

Rev. 2.2.0.25:
It is now possible to enter several "Authorized callers". The numbers should be entered without spaces and delimited by ; (semicolon) or , (comma).

Rev. 2.2.0.26:
You may now exclude calls to one or more MSN's from popping up the large banner, popping up the main window and being entered in the screen log. The logging to file can be turned on or of through the MSN dialog.

There is no user interface for this function, so you have to know how to use regedit. This function is controlled through the key value "Discrete" under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ISDNCID. The key value has to be a two-byte REG_BINARY value with one bit for each MSN. Bit0 for MSN1, BIT1 for MSN2 ...

If this made you even more confused, please leave it as one of the more mysterious sides of a computers inner life.

Until the next release,
Have a good time and enjoy ISDNCid!

ISDNCid Newsletter #4

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the fourth official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

What's in this newsletter?

1. WHAT'S THE CURRENT VERSION?
2. USING WILDCARD CHARACTERS IN CALLERS NUMBERS ( CALLER GROUPS ).
3. BACKUP OF PHONE BOOK.
4. LOST REGISTRATION CODES.
5. APPLICATION NOTES.
6. SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION

1. WHAT'S THE CURRENT VERSION?

Version 2.2.0.26 dated November 30. is now available for download in all supported language versions.

These are:
Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian and Spanish.

2. USING WILDCARD CHARACTERS IN CALLERS NUMBERS ( CALLER GROUPS ).

It's a shame, but I completely forgot to tell you.

Wildcard character in phone numbers has been available since rev. 2.2.0.25.

To treat a group of callers with similar numbers as one, you can use the wildcard character ?.
As an example, lets assume that a company calls you from different 8-digit numbers starting with 919293. You can then enter 919293?? in the phone book.

You can still override the settings for special numbers by entering the complete number.

Here are some examples:

919293?? Legal
??919293 Illegal
9192??94 Illegal
9192* Illegal

919293?? and
9192935? Legal. A matching 9192935? will override 919293??.

3. BACKUP OF PHONE BOOK.

The phone book is stored in the Windows registry. It means that your phone book is lost if you reinstall MS Windows. To take care of your phone book for backup purposes, you have to export this information to a file. To do so, please take the following steps:

1. Start regedit.
2. Select key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ISDNCID\Callers.
3. From the menu select Registry | Export Registry File.
4. Your phone book will be stored in a file with extension .reg.

To later import this information, just double click on the reg-file. Please remember that the existing settings in the registry will be overwritten.

In a later revision, ISDNCid will be using an external database file for this information.

4. LOST REGISTRATION CODES.

During the last couple of months I have received lots of email from people who have lost their registration codes. Some have also forgot on which MSN they registered and have even changed their email address. Until now, I have been using a lot of time finding back their registration code.

I will now be terminating this practice. It means that if you loose your registration code, you will have to register again to continue using ISDNCid.

Please remember that your registration code is your proof of purchase and keep the email confirming your registration in a safe place. If you have lost this email, open the ISDNCid About Box and write the registration code down on a piece of paper together with your MSN1 number.

5. APPLICATION NOTES.

From Terje Lerstein I got this one.

If you have a microphone it is real easy to make a voice msg. I bought one, but I'm not happy with the sound quality. The second ISDN newsletter descibes a way to use your phone to make a standard answer. "welcome1" if you call your MSN1 number and record through your phone. This gives a nice quality answer that will replace the standard welcome. If you want to make a personal voice msg. you can not yet do that with your phone unless you make this little trick which I will descibe.

Make a temporary welcome1 with your phone. This is the personal msg you want for your contact, friend,mistress..... then you doubleclick my computer, doubleclick c:, doubleclick program files, isdncid and finally answer, and you will see two wav files named welcome and welcome one.If your contact has the phonenumber "12345678", you just rename welcome1 to 12345678 and you have a personal voice msg for that phonenumber.
Go back to ISDNCID and click configure associations. Doubleclick the person/phonenumber you want to configure and tick off the box personal voice msg. Push play to make sure it is there. Last but not least you should make a new "welcome1" to use as your standard answer or make another personal voice msg.

ISDNCid Newsletter #5

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the fifth official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

What's in this newsletter?

1. WHAT'S THE CURRENT VERSION?
2. WHAT'S NEW.
3. UPDATE TO VERSION 2.3.
4. SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION

1. WHAT'S THE CURRENT VERSION?

Most of you have been using version 2.2.0.26 which is the latest version available in all languages. There have also been available as an update (a zip file with the English version of the exe-file) the 2.2.0.29 version. A lot of things asked for have been added/modified from version 2.2.0.26 to 2.2.0.29 and to version 2.3. All version prior to 2.3 have a Year2000 bug, but you can still use it until Jan. 1.st. 2000.

2. A lot of things have been added to ISDNCid. Among others - it's become Talking ISDNCid through MS Speech API and it can talk in most common languages, even Norwegian and Icelandic to announce the caller. So it's no need to open your eyes when you are resting horizontal and the phone rings.
I will also dedicate some of my work to let people with disabilities give ISDNCid spoken commands instead of mouse clicks and button pushes. These technics will also be used in remote control so that you can call ISDNCid and give commands in a natural language.A lot of testing have allready been done and it seems promising.

You will receive a newsletter #6 in a couple of days that documents the new functions and how to use them.

3. UPDATE TO VERSION 2.3.

Because of the cracked versions of ISDNCid that's available on the net I'm going to change the protection algorithm for version 2.3

As the protection algorithm uses your MSN1 number I need to know your registered MSN1 number in order to send you a new registration key.

First of all, you will receive a mail sent from me on Sat. 10th of July with information about your registration.

IF YOUR MSN1 NUMBER IS WRONG PLEASE RESPOND TO gwoldmo@c2i.net

By Wed. 14.th of July I will be generating and emailing the new registration keys. The new 2.3 version will be available at the same time.

Without the new key you have a 21 days trial time before ISDNCid stops working.

ISDNCid Newsletter #6

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the 6th official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

What's in this newsletter?

1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
2. THE NEW REGISTRATION CODE
3. THE CONFIGURATION UTILITY
4. EXTERNAL PROGRAM LAUNCHING
5. TALKING CALLER ID
6. SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION

1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

I am very sorry to have misled a lot of you both regarding the registration code and the release date for the configuration utility. To be precise, here is the current status:

2. THE NEW REGISTRATION CODE

The new registration code you have received is valid for the coming version 2.3 final release. For the 2.3 beta release (2.2.0.99) please use your old registration code.

3. THE CONFIGURATION UTILITY

The configuration utility will be available for download from one of the following links: http://www.telecosoft.com/isdncfig.zip or http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/isdncfig.zip or (for those who don't have an unzip utility) http://www.telecosoft.com/isdncfig.exe
Please extract or install the exe-file in the ISDNCid directory. This utility will be available for download from Sunday, August 22, 1999 at 1200 CET (which should be tomorrow at the time of writing :) ).

4. EXTERNAL PROGRAM LAUNCHING

In the latest version of ISDNCid you can launch external application at every call and every call clearing. By call clearing I mean when the pending call is cleared either by the caller hanging up, someone is answering the call or the answering machine answers the call.

For the application launching you can specify call dependant parameters in the program argument line. These parameters may be freely mixed with other text. Each parameter should be preceded by an exclamation point (!). The parameter codes and their meaning are the following:

!c Caller number
!n Caller name
!m Called number
!t Time of call
!d Date of call
!l Line (MSN) number (1 - 10)
!i CIP-value
!r 1) Reason code
!f 1) Name of fax- or message-file
!y 1,2) Message type
!p 1,3) Number of fax-pages, message length

1) These parameters are only valid at call clearance.

2) The message type is numbered as follows:
0 None
1 Rejected
2 Echoed
3 Answered by answering machine
4 Voice message
5 BrokenFax
6 Fax
7 ReadVoice (will not occur)
8 ReadFax (will not occur)
9 Answered by another phone/application

3) In case the user hung up, this value indicates the number of seconds before hang-up.
In case the user hung up while listening to the answering machine this value is the number of seconds of listening.
In case the user left a message, the length of the message in seconds.
In case of fax reception, the number of pages in the fax.
In case someone else answered the call, number of seconds before answering.

The external program launching is controlled through the string values OnCallRun, OnCallParams, AfterCallRun and AfterCallParams. They are all to be located in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ISDNCID. The configuration utility will manage these settings for you, but if you want some other applications to modify them, please go ahead.

If you are launching batch-files, the program name (OnCallRun,AfterCallRun) should be empty and the complete batch-file name with parameters should be placed in the parameters (OnCallParams,AfterCallParams) line. Here are a couple of examples:

OnCallRun: c:\MyApps\myapp.exe
OnCallParams: !c !d !t

or

OnCallRun:
OnCallParams: c:\MyApps\myfile.bat !c !d !t

5. TALKING CALLER ID

In order to use the talking caller id facility you need to install the Microsoft Speech API 4.0 and one or more speech libraries before running the configuration utility.

The MS Speech API may be installed through one of the following links:
http://www.telecosoft.com/spchapi.exe or
http://home.sol.no/~woldmo/spchapi.exe

Microsoft provides a couple of free speech libraries. They are all American voices. For additional speech libraries you can obtain more info or download trial versions from several locations:

ISDNCid Newsletter #7

Tuesday, September 7, 1999

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

***** IT'S HERE - TIME SCHEDULED MESSAGES *****

Great news!
-----------

You can now automatically switch the answering settings in ISDNCid through the new utility called ISDNCid Scheduler and Microsoft's Task Scheduler.

You can also put shortcuts on your desktop for easy changing of answering files, answering delay and max. recording time.

How do I install this utility?
------------------------------
Just go ahead and download the utility (icidsche.exe 82Kbytes) from either http://www.telecosoft.com/icidsche.exe or http://home.c2i.net/gwoldmo/icidsche.exe

You have to put the exe-file in the same directory as isdncid.exe resides. Normally that is c:\Program Files\isdncid

How do I use it?
----------------

You run the utility by its application name and some additional parameters. If you create a shortcut on your desktop, just put something like

"C:\Program Files\isdncid\icidsche.exe" /L1 /D10 /X240 /A1 /Fc:\newfile.wav

in the program path box.

If the path to either icidsche.exe or the message file uses long file names, you have to enclose the path in quotes like this /F"c:\My Messages\Lunch.wav"

If you want to automatically switch message settings, just start the MS Task Scheduler and put the path of icidsche.exe along with it's parameters in the application name field.

What does the parameters mean?
------------------------------

The first parameter is always the /L with the MSN number (1 - 10) like /L3 for MSN3. This must always be the first of a sequence of parameters. You can configure more than one MSN in one command.

The following parameters (one or more) have this meaning:
/Dn : Answering delay (seconds from 0 to 999) like /D10
/Xn : Max recording time (seconds from 0 to 999) like /X240
/An : Answering machine on or off like /A1 (on) or /A0 (off)
/Ff : Full path of new message file like /Fc:\newmessage.wav

For the /F parameter you have to use quotes if the path or filename includes spaces. The new message file always overwrite the existing welcome message (Welcome?.wav) in the ISDNCid Answer directory.

Message files must be in the format CCITT ALaw 8000Hz 8Bit Mono or PCM 8000Hz 8Bit Mono.

How do I prepare message files?
-------------------------------

A lot of funny answer files are available on the net. To prepare them for usage by ISDNCid, just open the wav-file of your choice with Sound Recorder and select Save As. You might have to push the Format Change button before you save the file if it's not in the correct format.

If your selected message file does not have a ding or beep or something at the end, you can use Sound Recorder to add this from another file at the end.

What does it require to work?
-----------------------------

This new utility requires that you have installed ISDNCid v2.3 Beta 3 (2.2.0.105) or later. You can download this version from http://www.telecosoft.com/

Unfortunately the large caller display (the banner) is missing in this version. It will be corrected in Beta 4 available late tonight (CET). No other changes are made from Beta 3 to Beta 4.

ISDNCid Newsletter #8

Monday, September 13, 1999

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

Update information.
-------------------

The two utilities isdncfig.exe (configuration utility) and icidsche.exe (message parameter changing) has been updated and should now work with all language versions of ISDNCid.

Please also note that for icidsche.exe the parameter /M is changed to /L.

One of the parameters for icidsche.exe is the name of the new message wav-file. Currently this file has to be either CCITT ALaw 8KHz or PCM 8KHz. In the next version of icidsche.exe almost any wav-file format will be handled and converted to ISDN telephony quality.

The next version of icidsche.exe will also be SAGE-aware. That is, it can be configured in Task Scheduler through standard dialog boxes without the need to know and understand the parameter coding.

The next version of icidsche.exe will be available for download at the end of this week.

You can download these updates either as individual files or as a zip-file following these links:
http://isdncid.bizland.com/icidsche.exe ( 82 Kb)

ISDNCid Newsletter #12 Sunday, January 9, 2000

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

ISDNCid 2.3.0.5 service release.
--------------------------------

Registered user should now have received the new registration code through newsletter #11. For those of you who are still looking for the new code, please read the whole document as I'm not able to put all information in the first sentence.

Well, after thinking for a while, I put the codes in the first sentence too. :})))

This service release fixes some problems discovered through the publishing of ISDNCid 2.3 final relase (2.3.0.3) on January 7'th. If you didn't experience any problems, you don't have to install this service release as there is no new functionality available.

The following problems are fixed in release 2.3.0.5:

-------
Problem: ISDNCid crashes during first run.
Description: Closing the registration dialog might cause a crash.
Status: Fixed.

-------
Problem: The play/record don't work and wav-files can't be played.
Description: Only applicable if ISDNCid is run as a service.
Status: Fixed.

-------
Problem: The play/record don't work and wav-files can't be played.
Description: If running as a service and using "Talking Caller Id" the speech engine will block the wav media player.
Status: Talking caller Id is now disabled if ISDNCid is run as a service.

-------
Problem: Notes can't be saved for numbers with wildcard characters (e.g. 9192????)
Description: For notes and personal messages the ? character can't be used in the filename.
Status: Fixed, the ? character is substituted with _ in filenames.

-------
Problem: Problem with caller names longer than 25 characters.
Description: From v2.2.0.108 to v2.3.0.3 the name field was extended from 25 to 49 characters.
Status: Fixed.

-------
Problem: External program scheduling for specific MSN's didn't work.
Description: Only "All lines" worked.
Status: Fixed.

-------
Problem: Error 403 - Access forbidden trying to download from www.telecosoft.com
Description: GetRight, Gozilla and some other strange creatures don't behave correctly when identifying themselves without special setup procedures.
Status: Configuration instructions for GetRight are put on the download page.

ISDNCid version information.
----------------------------

The 2.2.0.108, 2.3.0.3 and later are the only versions of ISDNCid that are Y2K safe. The first Y2K safe version of ISDNCid was published in June, 1999.

Some users don't like the frequent updates of ISDNCid. I will sometime during this year make a Y3K safe version available for these users to prevent the need for updating for a while :)

ISDNCid 2.2.0.26 is not Y2K safe. You can achieve the Y2K safe 2.2 version functionality by running version 2.2.0.108 and delete the file isdncfig.exe from the ISDNCid directory.

Didn't anything stop working on January 1.? Did you miss the real Y2K problems? Then continue to run ISDNCid 2.2.0.26 and put a banner in the rear windshield of your car saying "I have a REAL Y2K problem".

ISDN Text messages.
-------------------

Text messages in ISDNCid are currently supported by transfering UserUserData (UserUserSignalling = UUS) in the call setup phase. This is standardized in DSS1/Q.931 and should work, if implemented, in all countries using the DSS1 protocol for the ISDN network.

Norway is one of the first countries to implement this 100% with up to 128 bytes transferred. In a lot of countries and for a lot of equipment, this is still not implemented.

I have the current status for Norway and for these adapters:

TeleS: Can receive but not transmit.
Eicon Diva: Can both receive and transmit but has some bugs.
Dynalink: Works 100% with 2.53 drivers from www.dynalink.nl (2L in Netherlands).

I would be happy to receive status from other countries/ for other adapters to publish on the web.

This is how it works:

ISDN->ISDN
ISDNCid calls the receiver with the message in UserUser Data. As soon as the receiver is alerted (one ring), ISDNCid hangs up.

ISDN->GSM
This is a proprietary solution for Telenor, Norway. ISDNCid puts the receivers GSM-number in front of the message separated by a space in UserUserData and calls the service center number (19100 for Norway) with the combined message in UserUserdata.

In Norway, you can also request some information by sending a text message to the Telenor Info number (1999).

As an example, sending the message "VALUTA DEM" results in a responding message after a second with the current currency of DEM. You can also request weather info, phone numbers, jokes and other info through this service.

Technical description and user guide.
-------------------------------------

As soon as I'm able to, I will put technical description and user guides on www.telecosoft.com

If you have problems using ISDNCid or have technical questions, please take a look at the web-pages first. Some descriptions may be found in specific sections and a lot of information is available in the newsletter section.

ISDNCid Newsletter #13 Wednesday, January 12, 2000

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

--------------------------------
In this newsletter:

- New update, version 2.3.0.6
- Voice message formats
- Support forms

ISDNCid 2.3.0.6 release.
--------------------------------

This release addresses the following problems in previous releases and adds some new functionality. If you didn't experience any problems or don't need the new functionality, you don't have to install this release.

You have to download and install the complete package from the download page at http://www.telecosoft.com

The following problems are fixed in release 2.3.0.6:

-------
Problem: Some users have problems entering the new registration code.
Description: ISDNCid stays in trial mode after entering the registration code.
Status: Fixed.

-------
Problem: Personal settings "Answer always" also answers on FAX lines.
Description: MSN's with "Handle Fax" should always be answered in fax mode.
Status: Fixed.

-------
Problem: ISDNCid crashes when Windows is shutting down.
Description: Some CAPI drivers terminate before ISDNCid resulting in crash.
Status: Fixed, ISDNCid now terminates at power down without waiting for CAPI to release.

-------
New functionality: Fax reception
Description: Incoming calls in fax-mode (CIP=17) are predetermined to be fax.
Status: For calls in fax mode ISDNCid always answers in fax mode on all MSN's if the ISDN adapter supports fax and fax reception from this caller is not rejected. Traditional fax is still identified as voice calls and enters fax mode only on MSN's where "Handle incoming fax" is selected.

Voice message formats.
----------------------

From version 2.3 ISDNCid accepts most PCM wav-formats as answer files. This means that you don't have to convert already made wav-files into the ISDN quality 8000Hz 8Bit Mono before using them. They are converted on the fly at the time ISDNCid answers the calls.

Some non-PCM formats are not possible to convert and will result in strange noise transmitted. If you are in doubt, you can use the new ISDNCid Message Scheduler (icidsche.exe) for conversion. This tool will soon be released.

The file Ding.wav in your ISDNCid\Answer directory is used as the basis for new answer messages you record and put at the end of the message. The shipped Ding.wav is the traditional MS Ding sound in PCM 22KHz 16Bit format. You can replace this file by a wav-file of your choice to use other sounds as the "beep" or to change the default recording format.

Change of email address, MSN1 and other queries.

ISDNCid Newsletter #14 Wednesday, January 12, 2000

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

--------------------------------
In this newsletter:

- New release: ISDNCid Message Scheduler

ISDNCid Message Scheduler 2.0.0.1 release.
------------------------------------------

The ISDNCid Message Scheduler enables you to automatically change the answering messages at time intervals or at fixed times.

This version is part of the complete 2.3.0.6 package but it can also be downloaded separately.

Do you want ISDNCid to automatically change between daytime, lunchtime, evening and night messages? Do you want to configure ISDNCid to change messages weeks ahead when you are going to relax at some sunny beach somewhere else?

It's all possible with the new ISDNCid Message Scheduler.

The message scheduler can be run with command line switches or as a true SAGE-aware application integrated with the Task Scheduler.

You can download the Message Scheduler (icidsche.exe) from the download pages at http://www.telecosoft.com and install it in the ISDNCid directory.

To enable the Message Scheduler to interact with the Task Scheduler you have to tell Windows about its presence by running it this way the first time:

c:\Program Files\isdncid\icidsche.exe /register

You can find the command line switches by just double-clicking at icidsche.exe

To run the Message Scheduler from Task Scheduler, open the Task Scheduler and double-click "Add Task".

Click Next and then Browse. Then navigate to the ISDNCid directory and select icidsche.exe

Select your day / time settings and click next.

At the last screen, check "Open advanced properties.." and click Finish.

In the properties dialog that opens you can now click the "Settings" button to choose the answering message, the MSN's and the answering delay.

At least the Norwegian version of the Task Scheduler in Windows 98 Second Edition put the Browse button on top of the Settings button making it unavailable. If this is the case, you can use the shortcut (English version: Alt-S "Settings" / Norwegian version: Alt-I "Innstillinger") to access the settings.

It is wise to create a directory with a pool of messages to choose from.

When you select a wav-file, the Message Scheduler will try to convert the file into ISDN quality and will give you feedback if this is not possible.

When the Message scheduler runs, it will convert the source wav-file into ISDN quality and save the file as Welcome?.wav in the ISDNCid Answer directory.

ISDNCid Newsletter #15
Friday, January 14, 2000

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

----------------------------------------
In this newsletter:

- ISDNCid is terminating on every call
- Message Scheduler for Windows NT users
----------------------------------------

ISDNCid is terminating on every call.
-------------------------------------

Some users have informed me that their latest installation of ISDNCid (2.3.0.6) is showing the popup screen and/or the large banner for just a second and then terminates and unloads without any warning when somebody calls.

Another reported problem in the same installations is that trying to open one of the dialog boxes for MSN settings or others is followed by the dialog box is showing for just a second and closes. Sometimes followed by ISDNCid terminating and unloading.

This behaviour is built into the 2.3 release to happen if someone is tampering with the registration key or the registrations for the trial time period.

This can happen in the following cases:

- Tampering with the MSN1 or registration key.
- Tampering with the recorded installation time and trial period.
- Using code crackers or hack programs to unlock the copy protection.
- Adjusting the computer clock before installation to prolong the trial period.
- Copying the exe- and dll-files instead of running the installation program.
- Running the installation program while ISDNCid is running.
- Installing on Windows NT without administrator rights.
- Running 2.3 versions of ISDNCid prior to version 2.3.0.6

In most cases, a complete uninstallation followed by a clean installation removes the problem.

If the problem still exists, delete the complete ISDNCid directory and reinstall ISDNCid. You may also have to use regedit to remove key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ISDNCID before reinstallation. You will then loose your ISDNCid address book.

If you still have this problem and are sure that it is not caused by any of the above reasons, please send email to support@telecosoft.com and describe the problem. Please attach the installation log-file c:\capilog.txt

ISDNCid Message Scheduler for NT users.
------------------------------------------

The ISDNCid Message Scheduler is interacting with the MS Task Scheduler that comes with Windows 98. I am told that the task scheduler is also available in the Windows 95 Plus Pack.

In Windows NT the Task Scheduler is called the Scheduling Service. This service can be turned on in the "Services" settings in the Control Panel.

Scheduled tasks may be added or deleted by using the AT-command. For users who want a graphical user interface instead of the command line at-command, a WinAT application is available in the NT resource kit at ftp://ftp.clinet.fi/.3/ftp.microsoft.com/ResKit/nt4/x86/winat/

You may do a trick to use the graphical user interface in ISDNCid Message Scheduler. You have to number your different settings 01, 02 and so on.

Then, to configure one set, you can run this command:
c:\program files\isdncid\icidsche.exe /SAGESET:01
This will bring up the configuration dialog for set # 1.

In the AT-command or in WinAT you should use this command line to execute set 1:
c:\program fles\isdncid\icidsche.exe /SAGERUN:01
This will execute the Message Scheduler with the settings for set 1.

Before using the Message Scheduler the first time you should install the application by running the following command:

c:\program fles\isdncid\icidsche.exe /register

ISDNCid is terminating on every call.
-------------------------------------

Because of some installation problems in ISDNCid (2.3.0.6) the popup screen and/or the large banner is shown for just a second and then ISDNCid terminates and unloads without any warning when somebody calls.

Another reported problem in the same installations is that trying to open one of the dialog boxes for MSN settings or others is followed by the dialog box is showing for just a second and closes. Sometimes followed by ISDNCid terminating and unloading.

This behaviour only applies for some users dependent on how the installation is run.

A new release of ISDNCid (2.3.0.8) is now available for download in English and Norwegian versions.

Also a bug has been fixed to correctly show the 'P' in the phonebook list for callers with the personal answer setting active.

A bit more robustness is built into the dialog boxes and both the callers number and name is now shown in the caption (heading) in the caller properties dialog box.

ISDNCid Message Scheduler enhancements.
------------------------------------------

A new command line switch ( /K ) is built into the message scheduler to keep the original wav-file format when run instead of converting it into ISDN quality. The conversion will take place when ISDNCid answers the call.

This new function is also available in the configuration dialog box as "Keep format".

The latest version is now 2.0.0.2

ISDNCid Newsletter #17
Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Dear registered ISDNCid user.

This is the official newsletter for registered users of ISDNCid. If you do not want to receive information about new versions, please remove yourself from the mailing list by following the information at the end of this newsletter.

----------------------------------------
In this newsletter:

- New service release for testing on Vista and Windows 7.
----------------------------------------

New service release 2.3.0.23
-------------------------------------

After several years with no new official releases I have been asked to release a version that can be installed and run on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

The 2.3.0.23 version should install and run well on both 32-bit and 64 bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7. You should however follow these guidelines when configuring the compatibility properties for isdncid.exe:
- ISDNCid must be run with Adminstrative rights.
- Do not select the compatibility mode for other Windows versions.

During installation you might experience a couple of error messages claiming that a registry key could not be opened or written to. Just choose to ignore these messages.

You may download a complete installation program for the english version of ISDNCid 2.3.0.23 from www.telecosoft.com
Currently, only the english version is available. The downloaded file is named ISDNCidsetup.zip. After the download is completed, rename this file to ISDNCidsetup.exe and run the installation program. Before installing, please make a backup copy of your current installation.

On Vista and Win7 you can not run ISDNCid as a system service. This is because Microsoft has changed the way system services are running from Windows Vista. Services can no longer interact with the desktop.
The "Talking Caller Id" feature will not work with the new Speech API present in Vista and Win7.
A new button will appear at the button bar. This button (a clock symbol) is used to temporarly disable ISDNCid from receiving configuration changes from the task scheduler (icidsche).

For those of you who are directly accessing the registry keys to configure ISDNCid you can find all entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ISDNCID and subkeys. For 64-bit versions of the operating system you can find these keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ISDNCID.

The latest version is now 2.3.0.23
